What’s it like to come to worship at Church of the Redeemer?
Psalm 100
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
“To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God." --William Temple
At Church of the Redeemer our joy and desire is to come into God’s presence and gather together as a church family through a variety of ways: with uplifting music, the arts, reading through the bible, participating in a common language (liturgy), praying together, story & messages, drama and communion.
We sing of God’s greatness using all kinds of instruments—guitars, keyboard, percussion, brass, woodwinds and stringed instruments like the Cello or Violin or Harp. And we sing modern songs, old beautiful hymns, as well as songs written by our own musicians.
We listen from the Bible and thoughtfully teach God’s good news and message weekly. We come to God in prayer with our own needs, concerns and our gratefulness for all the He has done. Frequently we affirm the ancient statement of faith (creeds) of Christianity that extol the work of God in the Church and world.
Some weeks, we listen to the story of God’s work in the life of a member of this church family. Specifically, we do this intentionally during the season of Epiphany. Other times, we enact the Scriptures, illuminating the narrative of God’s initiative with all of us. In some seasons, we display well-crafted paintings, photography, and sculpture that evoke the nature of God.
Every week, we approach God through communion, taking the bread and wine as a reminder of the work of Jesus to draw the world to God.
