Webers in Rwanda: June Missions Update

The Weber kids enjoying some corn which their friend and language tutor Ruth cooked on her charcoal grill!

We sent out our dear Weber family as missionaries in our sister diocese in Gahini, Rwanda, on March 29th. They’re living among our Rwandan brothers and sisters there, working to strengthen our mission partnership and relationship with our sister parish through Friends of Gahini!

Here’s the Webers’ June newsletter update about their first 3 months in Rwanda, continuing language lessons, helping run an English service, and having lots of visitors they've enjoyed! You can find praises and prayer requests below, and read the whole update complete with more photos and details here!

Praises:

The Webers cats, all healthy!

  • On June 6th, we realized that our cat Smokey had eaten a few of Cherie's vitamin D pills and they were killing him. Praise that we were able to treat him with activated charcoal through the night and then rush him to a vet in Kigali for treatment. He has completely recovered and there was no long-term internal damage.

  • Our children have started to say that Rwanda feels like home, including Mae!

  • The English service has run a little more smoothly the last few weeks and the Gospel has been presented very clearly to the students.

Prayer Requests:

  • The students from the local school who have been attending the English service will all be headed home at the beginning of July. They are from all over Rwanda. Please pray that the seeds that were planted during the English service will continue to grow in them.

  • We have a meeting with the English service leadership team to talk about how this summer will look. Our prayer is that we can use this time to really get to know the students who live in Gahini.

  • We continue to struggle daily with cultural shock and fatigue. Everything is harder here and takes more energy. Pray that we will continue to adjust and push forward in our language studies.
