Liturgy of the Word: For Children

by Leah Wall
Lead Catechist for Children

You may have seen the illustrated bulletins that we have available for children to use during the service - if not, you can find them in the narthex on Sunday mornings. These have been created as a way for children to participate in the service a little more actively. For many children, the act of sitting still takes so much attention that little is left for listening. With permission to write, their bodies are kept active enough that their attention can be given to the liturgies of the word and table.

If you have older elementary age children, this article is very helpful. As all parents know, the homily is a challenging time for children because of the quiet sitting. However, many children in 2nd and 3rd grade are old enough to begin finding it accessible with a little guidance. The illustrated bulletins now have a second side! This second side is ideal for children who are old enough to stay through the service. I encourage you to grab one and hand it to them when it's time to quietly listen to the homily.
