Curacy

What is a curate?

A curate is a (typically) younger clergy person who serves as an assistant to a parish’s rector (senior pastor). In our current season at Church of the Redeemer, our curate will be supervised and mentored by our Parish Director, Rev. JD Meeder.

The curate will work closely with and be mentored by our senior clergy members and staff leadership to gain valuable experience and training to lay the foundation for a lifetime of ministry.

Meet Our Curate!

Brayden Armes

Born and raised in the “City of Angels”, Brayden is delighted to be further discerning a call to ordained ministry while serving as curate in Church of the Redeemer. As a curate, Brayden is tasked with the general pastoral task of caring for souls through discipleship to Jesus.

Brayden “discovered America” in the summer of 2001 in Los Angeles. Though he grew up in the city, he had many formative experiences outdoors. He is an Eagle Scout with leadership experience at all levels of the organization. Through middle and high school, making music impacted his life and he went on to study music performance on French Horn at CSU Long Beach with Dylan Skye Hart where he graduated with honors.

After a clear redirection away from a career in music, Brayden’s passion for coffee and love of detail was put to work as the Head Roaster for a micro roastery and café in Pasadena, CA. There, he began to feel a call away from LA and towards further training for pursuing a vocation in ordained ministry. After a summer of ministry in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park with ACMNP, Brayden moved to NC on an invitation from family. There he connected and served with Church of the Resurrection, in Mebane before accepting the curacy at Redeemer. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.

In his free time Brayden roasts coffee, enjoys the outdoors (although water sports are not his favorite), and likes to eat good food. He can almost count the number of states he has left to visit on one hand and while he is a Dodgers fan, he likes to remind people that it’s been many years since he’s been able to name the whole team (he peaked in Dodger knowledge at age 3).

Why do we have a curate at Redeemer?

There are simply not enough well-trained, formed, and equipped leaders for the American context before us, including in the Anglican Church. Our desire is that, Lord willing, Church of the Redeemer could become a robust training and equipping site in the Southeastern United States for the next generation of Christ-following leaders.

Our curacy is part of the Pastoral Residency program with Made to Flourish!
