Alden is from Columbus, Ohio, and he graduated in 2018 from Denison University with a degree in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics. For the past two years he was a Barrier Island Senior Naturalist at Camp Saint Christopher, an intentional Christian ministry of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina, located on Seabrook Island.

As do many Fellows, Alden chalks his discovery of the Greensboro Fellows program up to divine grace. He was visiting Greensboro with a friend he met while working at the camp, and during his time in the Gate City he was introduced to Rev. Dodd Drake and Fr. Benjamin Wall. As they met for lunch, Alden felt a clear call from God to become a Fellow in the upcoming year.

Alden’s job during the program is with Ward Black Law, which is a personal injury law firm located in Greensboro and run by an amazing group of people. His passion for law initially developed while taking a course on the philosophy of law during his junior year at Denison. As he learned about jurisprudence, legal structures, and natural law, he enjoyed applying tenets of his Christian faith and the theology of Thomas Aquinas to legal theory. Alden is planning to pair his passion for law with the experience he’s gaining this year in order to attend law school after the Fellows program. He loves seeing how the law and Christian faith can interplay in rational and moral manners, and he has a deep desire to use his law degree to make a positive impact on the world.

When he’s not conducting legal research for work or reading up on philosophy for fun, Alden also loves spending time in nature. He enjoys hiking, gardening, and fishing in particular. While working at Camp St. Christopher, he was able to spend his days outside, teaching 5th graders about the natural ecosystems of the Carolina coast. He took any opportunity he had when classes from Christian schools visited the camp to share about God’s glory displayed in the details of creation. Although his job has changed, he still carries this same spirit of wonder at creation and enjoys sharing his knowledge about his natural surroundings with anyone who’s interested.

Meeting him, you would immediately be impressed by his grateful spirit and his passion to grow in Christ, develop as a leader, and be faithful to God in His career. Alden is a gift to us and our program.
