Acolyte Training

Acolyte Training will run during the season of Advent for interested 4th and 5th graders. They will meet for training for 4 weeks during the hospitality time after the service on Sunday. Route 45 will not be meeting during these weeks. At least one parent is required to attend the first two trainings with their child.

Father Benjamin Wall is available to answer any questions!

Beginning in Epiphany (January 2020) we hope to have acolytes serving during the service at these times: Epiphany, Holy Week and Eastertide and special services (Bishop's visit, etc.).

If you cannot make all 4 meetings, your child's next opportunity for acolyte training will be late summer/early fall of 2020.

What is an acolyte?
From as early as the 250's CE there is a record of people whose work it was to serve by assisting when the church gathered for worship. As the order developed and time passed, Acolytes became the ones whose task it was to carry the cross (a Crucifer), the Bible (the Gospel bearer), the candles and snuffers (the Candle bearer), and the incense (a Thurifer).

In extension of our desire for children to transition from a separate catechesis-time to being full, active and interested participants in the body of Christ, Church of the Redeemer is continuing in this tradition and order.
